Brooklands Lyme Regis

Our upside-down house was built in 2007. In 2012 we installed 16 solar panels. Over the years there have been many updates to make our house greener. Most recently we have added an air source heat pump.

A timeline of our greener installations:

2012 Sixteen solar panels with an output of 3.92kWp using a Sunny Boy inverter.

2014 A Powerflow hot water diverter feeding our emersion heater rather than exporting electricity.

2019 Installed a Wiser smart heating hub with smart TRVs on all radiators.

2022

  • An upgrade to a SolarEdge inverter and modifications to the solar panels to give better efficiency.
  • A Tesla Powerwall 2 13.5kWh battery and Zappi Car charger.

2023 A Volkswagen ID3 electric vehicle.

2025 Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) assessed as Energy Rating B.

  • Replacement of a system gas boiler with an AIRA 8kWk air source heat pump.

  • Replacement of a gas hob with an Ikea induction hob.

  • Removal of a living room gas fire.

  • Disconnection and removal of gas supply.

  • Towards end of summer in 2025 we purchased a small computer (about £100) that runs Home Assistant. For those that don’t know, Home Assistant is a free, open-source home automation platform that acts as a central brain for your smart home. We use this to monitor and control devices in our home to make them more efficient.
