The solar panels were fitted in 2012 and benefit from the Feed-In Tariff, so the annual electricity bills are often zero.

Two wood burning stoves.

Recycled and re-purposed materials are used where possible. Four sheds were built from the wood of dismantled pallets.

The large garden has a wide range of organic vegetables, fruit trees and fruit bushes.

There are 25 water butts on the property. Some fill up in series from the down pipe, others are used to store that water, leaving space for the next downpour.

In the greenhouse there is a 45-year-old grape vine as well as large tomato and pepper plants.

Simple ways of using less water and energy: heating water in a Kelly Kettle in the morning to store in a thermos and drink during the day; using dish rinsing water to flush the downstairs toilet.
