Stuck?

Here are some ideas for what to do when your group loses momentum...

  1. Remember that all groups go through peaks and troughs
  2. Don't expect radical change. Every little change makes a difference.
  3. Focus on your successes. Even if change is slow, a year from now it will seem like you have achieved a lot.
  4. We can all only do so much and have different capacities. We also need to have balance in our lives. Being over-focused will become stressful and lead to becoming disheartened.
  5. We cannot achieve our aims alone. Don't be afraid to ask for help and get used to delegating.
  6. Follow the energy of the group rather than imposing your ideas onto the group. This engages group members more.
  7. Awareness of the Climate and Ecological Emergency is now mainstream. This is a huge success from the work of many over the last few years.
Possible Campaigns or future projects
  1. 20 is Plenty - traffic speed reduction campaign
  2. Green Living Project  - give a presentation about the project so people know what they are signing up to.
  3. Zero Carbon Village – people in each street survey what green changes have already been made. Sowing wild flowers, water butts, planting trees/hedges, solar PV, etc
  4. Repair cafe
  5. Tool Share Scheme
  6. Car Share Scheme
  7. Electric Bike Scheme
  8. Boomerang Bags
  9. Village trail of green things
  10. Treasure Hunt of green things
  11. Community Compost heaps and allotments
  12. Turn the phone box into a book/seed/plant swap
  13. Plant trees/hedges/wild flowers
  14. Informative guided walks
  15. Have page in parish magazine
  16. Garden share scheme – for those that have a garden that is too big to manage and for those that need a space to grow
  17. Community Energy project.
  18. Liaise with other groups – WI now have environment officers, village hall, Churches Together Eco groups
  19. Get local businesses to go green, support your group.
  20. Attend events – Earth Day, country fairs, village fete.
  21. Hold your own events – film night, supper night, quiz, bingo, installers/manufacturers to talk about heat pumps, solar, etc
  22. Register for plastic-free status
  23. Become a terracycle hub
  24. Join a water refill scheme.
