Wood Pellet Range - Solar PV and Battery - Solar hot water - EV

This 1930s detached house is off gas services but has heat energy from a combination of wood pellets, solar PV, and solar thermal, depending on the time of year. Being south facing contributes to reduced overall energy costs amounting to less than £1,000 per year, including running an electric car.

We bought Gull View in 2015, motivated by a desire to reduce our environmental footprint and energy costs. Improvements brought us to where we are today.

Our journey began with the installation of solar PV, a biomass range, and an electric car. In September 2017, we added a Tesla Powerwall 2 to optimise the use of our solar electricity. During 2022, we installed solar thermal, providing most of our domestic hot water during the summer.

We obtain our electricity from Octopus, who exclusively use renewable sources.

Solar PV with Tesla Powerwall provides an income from the generation of electricity, mostly in the middle of the year.

Solar Thermal provides hot water throughout the summer with no energy costs and allows us to shower with the power of the sun!

Klover 120 wood pellet range is used for cooking and heating the house.

Tesla Model 3 uses cheap overnight electricity, reducing charging cost and having a ‘full charge’ every morning.

With a south facing aspect to the house, we are exposed to the elements from the sea. We fitted Oak framed Windows to provide a long-term solution from an environmental source.
