Athelhampton House, Puddletown

A major investment in this Tudor mansion has resulted in a zero carbon estate. Over 400 solar panels, fitted in two areas, produce enough electricity for running the heating of the house and all other energy needs. 12 Tesla Powerwall batteries provide night-time backup and time-shifting demand for off peak power when needed. The excess is sold to tenants, used to charge EVs, and exported to the grid.

Heating for the Coach House is provided by two Ground Source Heat Pumps, situated 200m from the house, and hot water is ducted under the river Piddle to the house through highly insulated pipes. The West Wing and Tudor Hall are both heated but five Air Source Heat pumps, hidden 100 m from the house.

Along with the Renewable Heat Incentive grant the energy bills are in the hundreds of pounds per year, instead of the tens of thousands before the project. Our energy carbon emission is nil, and we can heat the old house all year around.
