8 Northover Close was built in 1990, and is now up to good insulated standard. The present owners have installed 17 solar panel on the roof, with different orientations to catch the sun t different times. The electricity produced charges up to home batteries, with a total energy store of 4.8kW, and these are used to power the house.

The home is heated with an Air Source Heat Pump. Installing it involved changing not only the radiators but also the microbore pipes. Fortunately they were eligible for the government Boiler Upgrade Scheme and an interest-free loan, so there were no upfront costs.

Ian and May have a productive garden with with vegetables and soft fruit.
