Energy saving improvements
- 6 kwAir Source Heat Pump
- 16 Solar PV panels
- House battery 10kWh
- Intelligent electricity tariffs: Octopus Flux Export and Intelligent Octopus Go
Carol purchased this unmodernised 1970s semi-detached bungalow in November 2024. Her main goal with the improvements she has made was to reduce electricity usage and reliance on the grid. This has been done by installation of loft insulation, an Octopus Cosy 6 air source heat pump, a 16 panel solar array and house battery. The bungalow already had cavity wall insulation.
She benefitted from a Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant of £7,500 towards the cost of the heat pump, leaving her to pay just the remaining £2,500 cost. Octopus surveyed the property and specified the required radiator area for each room, the size of heat pump and hot water cylinder required. Octopus also applied for the grant, carried out the installation and provide annual service for the system.
The cost of the solar panel and battery installation, £12,000, has been funded by one-third deposit and a three-year interest-free loan on the remaining cost. This financial package is provided by the installation company, Heatable, a “Which” recommended supplier. Her EV charges overnight on Octopus Flux super-cheap nighttime rate of 7p per KWh. She also exports spare capacity to the grid by means of Octopus Export tariff. At the time of writing, mid May, her electricity account is £80 in credit.
Carol is pleased to welcome visitors throughout the year by appointment. She has three dogs, so please be prepared for an energetic welcome! The property is not accessible by wheelchair, but there are grab handles by the side of each of two steps into the property. There is parking outside the property on Bellbury Close, an unmade private road.
