The house was built in 1980 and has had insulation added in the loft and cavity walls as well as being double glazed - this before we moved in.
Converting an integrated garage to a utility room removed a big source of cold drafts.
We added solar panels around 12 years ago - the inverter failed after about 10 year and when we replaced it we added a battery which can provide some power in the event of a powercut - being on the South coast with a south facing roof we get such good power supply that the energy company has had to check our readings are real!
We have a 12 year old electric car - which has been a very cheap car to run and is lovely to drive - one day we may get one with a longer range.
In the last few weeks we got a heat pump installed - we can’t yet tell you what it’s like to live with over winter - but can show it to you, talk about the install process, and maybe you can hear it working (it’s quieter than our old gas boiler). The install upgraded 3 radiators - but the others are still the same old ones.
People can park on Crock Lane or further round the corner on Slades Green - if someone needs to park on the drive it is probably best they contact us first as we live on a very narrow lane with no on-street parking.
