Built in 1973, with an EPC rating between E 40 and F 29 (similar to houses in St Katherine’s Avenue), this house was ripe for improvement. By improvement I don’t mean refitting of bathroom and kitchen, but real physical improvement to the structure, currently measurable by the present EPC rating of C 74. This was largely achieved through thermal insulation and changes to the heating, hot water and cooling systems
Insulation is far from sexy or attractive, but as I write this on the hottest June day for umpteen years I am well aware that our existing housing stock is fast becoming unfit for purpose. “Fit and forget” changes such as thermal insulation, awnings, water recycling, home energy generation and storage are all becoming much more relevant with the passage of time. I also have thoughts on heat pumps arising from installation quotes and look forward to sharing with you
