This is a 1970s house which Matt bought 18 months ago. It has foam filled cavity walls and 300mm loft insulation, and retains the warmth well over winter.
Solar PV panels have been installed on the North and South aspects of the roof (8.5kW) and unused power is stored in a Tesla Powerwall 3 battery. Excess electricity is diverted to a smart MyEnergy Zappi EV charger, which will charge the car when there is excess generation; and an Eddi immersion diverter which heats water with anything left.
" I have also recently installed a 4kW refrigeration split heat pump replacing a 24kW gas boiler. Now completely off gas.
" I have also installed Water butts with irrigation hoses to automatically water the gardens rather than rain water heading to sewage treatment."
Matt is an installer for H2Eco, a large renewable energy company in Poole. He is therefore very knowledgeable about the technology, and has put his money where his mouth is. His colleague Mike is also opening his house in Corfe Mullen.
