Dorset Council answers questions about funding its CEE strategy

21/2/2021

In a response to Cllr. Beryl Ezzard’s proposed amendment about how DC will fund its CEE strategy, Cllr. Ray Bryan issued a detailed statement, including:

“Dorset Council will need to invest many millions of pounds over the next 20 years to become a Carbon Neutral Council. However, we are off to a fantastic start: -
  • We’re installing 44 Electric Vehicle Charge points across the county.
  • We have changed to green energy in all our council owned properties where possible.
  • We’re consulting in Weymouth on how to encourage safe walking and cycling along the harbour.
  • Our Low Carbon Dorset Programme was extended with additional funding from MHCLG of £5m"

Response to DC's Climate & Ecological Emergency Strategy

20/1/2021

We sent the final version of the Dorset CAN Response to the Dorset Council's Climate and Ecological Emergency Strategy, together with a supporting letter from Scientists Warning Europe. Warm thanks for the inputs and comments that so many of you sent to the editors or contributed at our Zoom meetings.

What we have done:
  • We sent copies of this response to the Leader of the Council, Cllr Spencer Flower and the two Councillors - Ray Bryan and Nocturin Lacey-Clark - who have leading responsibility for the Strategy. We asked them for a meeting at senior level, to discuss how to move urgently towards net zero carbon emissions and wide ecological recovery by 2030.
  • We copied this message to senior officers of the Council
  • We sent the Response to all the Councillors of Dorset Council, telling them of our request for a high-level meeting and pointing out the high potential for local action to tackle this great challenge of climate change and ecological emergency. (see attached)
  • We sent out a Press Release
